17 December. Sunday in Stevenage. A major cleaning mission

Cleaning Day!

Buffet breakfast at Rump and Wade restraurant, Hotel Cromwell's adjacent building

We picked up H from her night shift at Lister Hospital and went back to the hotel. The hotel has breakfast for patrons from 7.30am to 10am (11 GBP for  each of us).

The place is fancier than the food. It was a buffet style English breakfast. H filled us with stories at work and it made the breakfast more delicious than it is.

Then it was back to her flat, where we got down to work, cleaning and setting up the fryer.Pat did the difficult part and scrubbed down the years of grime on the sink. I attacked the dust bunnies in her bedroom and living room mercilessly with the brand now floor mop. It was a major op!

There was some transformation and Pat has made it possible to do some light cooking that night. It would be home cooked food; H's home and I cook the food.

11.30am. We left H to rest for the day. We deposited the car at hotel Cromwell and walked to the town centre, some 2km away. The weather was fantastic, the skies were blue, the weather mild and the walk was a continuous one without us having to cross the road. As we reflected on the effort just to get from Cromwell to the town centre and the train station, we realised how much she has to walk from the flat just to take a train to London.

6.30pm. We were back at kiddo's flat, this time to cook dinner. Despite the lack of utensils, I managed to whip up a meal of fried noodles under 30 minutes. We even had fruits for dessert.

8.30pm. We sent H to work then head back to the hotel. By now, staff must be wondering why we are always coming and going.

But tomorrow, we would really be going.
